As all cyclists know, with the advancement of technology comes the need to find a good local bike shop that you trust to keep your pride and joy in perfect shape. Here at VéloGîtes we have an equipped workshop but, for those jobs which need a professional touch, the guys at Speed Cycle Civray are THE shop to use.

I recently needed to change the brake pads on my Cervelo R5 and had some difficulties with one of the bolts. I dropped the bike off on Friday afternoon at 14:00 and got a text message just a few hours later to say that it was ready for collection – impressive service!

As you head towards Civray from the east, you will be driving along the D148; about 2kms from Civray the town of Savigné is host to Speed Cycle.  With plenty of car parking it is easy to unload your bike from the car and in to the shop where you will be welcomed by Sebastian or Remi.  It is easy to see that these two guys are pasisonate about “Le Vélo” and are extremely knowledgable.   

Speed Cycle was launched in 2006 and stocks a wide variety of spares, clothes and of course bikes!  You can spend time admiring the latest machinery from BMC, Scott and Pinarello (remember the ideal number if bikes is “N+1” where you currently have “N” bikes).

The bikes range from Mountain bikes (VTT), Road bikes and Hybrids.  All have electric versions including the amazing Scott Strike E-ride mountain bike, a serious bike and perfect for exploring the great trails around here at VéloGîtes here in Availles-Limouzine.

Surely one of the outstanding road bikes at the moment, the BMC TimeMachine, is also on display with Campagnolo Super Record components – If I win the lottery I might just treat myself!

As for spares, Speed Cycle 86 is a main stockist of Shimano parts, many of which can also be used for SRAM. Whether it’s a casette, tyre or a chain that you need, the guys will be able to help you get back on the road with no delays.   

Their workshop is very well equiped to deal with all repairs and the level of service is fantastic, from the moment you drop your bike off to when you receive a text saying that it is ready for collection, be assured that the team will look after it as if it is their own.  Before I left the shop I was sent a text with a security code to allow me to collect my bike, a very clever security protocol.  Of course, VéloGîtes does have its own workshop equiped with most essential tools where simple repairs can be done; Graham is on hand to help wherever he can.  For those jobs which require specialist equipement and knowledge – Speed Cycles are the guys to trust!

Nutrition and clothing

Again, Speed Cycle do not disappoint.  A wide range of shoes, clothing and helmets are offered for sale as are the essential nutrition products (gels, bars and powders) to keep you full of energy on the longer rides.
